For this Make, I created a movie poster based on a scene from The Shining. The concept is using an ice cream cone as the main image. This is in regards to the scene where Dick Hallorann is explaining the storage contents to Wendy and Danny. But speaks ONLY to Danny about ice cream.
The typography used is to convey a similarity of the original poster but which sharper points and not a block style like the original. The tag line, "How'd you like some ice cream, Doc?" is a serf to provide a contrast to the rigidness of the title.
The challenge was creating an ice cream that was flat but not too busy. I created this one using layers and color contrast for shading effects. The waffle cone design was a little tricky but thanks to a YouTube tutorial it came out good. I used a blood red for the title, a variation of beige for the ice cream and tag line, a yellow-gold color palette for the cone, and black for background. I used Adobe Illustrator and Typekit to create the image.
